In 2007, alongside Jean Hoffman, Shahade established 9queens, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing chess education to those who need it most, particularly young girls and at-risk youth. All royalties from her book, Play Like a Girl! Tactics by 9 Queens, were generously donated to support the initiatives of 9 Queens. Additionally, she has collaborated with the Chess-In-The-Schools program in New York City, where she played a pivotal role in launching a Girls’ Academy and coaching the championship-winning team from I.S. 318. Currently, she oversees classes at the Philadelphia 9 Queens Chess Academies in partnership with After Schools Activities Partnerships.
