Omaha Hi
Omaha Hi Short Description
Omaha Hi, a popular form of Poker accommodating 2 to 10 players, has surged in popularity across the globe, thanks to its rapid gameplay and straightforward rules.
While Omaha Hi primarily denotes the version played with four hole cards, there are variations that utilize five or six hole cards as well.
An Omaha Hi hand unfolds over a maximum of four Betting Rounds. Following the placement of Blind Bets (see The Blind Bets section), players receive four, five, or six private cards, dealt face down. Throughout the hand, five community cards are revealed face up at the center of the table for all players to use.
As soon as the final Betting Round concludes, a Showdown takes place. The player who forms the best possible five-card Poker hand using any two of their four, five, or six Pocket Cards along with any three of the five Community Cards takes home the Pot.

Omaha Hi Step-by-Step
Step 1: The Blind Bets
- The first player 'Sitting-in', located clockwise from the Dealer's left, is responsible for placing the 'Small Blind' bet, which is half of the table's Lower Limit Stake (on tables where stakes exceed $1, this amount is rounded down to the nearest dollar) (see Betting Rounds & Limits below).
- The next player in line, also sitting clockwise from the Dealer's left, places the 'Big Blind' Bet, which is equal to the table's Lower Limit Stake.
Step 2: The Pocket Cards - The First Deal
- The Dealer deals out four, five, or six facedown Pocket Cards to each participant, progressing in a clockwise direction, starting with the player adjacent to the Big Blind.
Step 3: The First Betting Round
Betting Limit: Lower Limit Stake
- The first Betting Round kicks off with the player immediately to the left of the Big Blind. Betting then continues clockwise around the table, with each player taking their turn. During this round, every player must at least match the Big Blind to stay in play. The betting starts at the table's Lower Limit Stake.
Step 4: 'The Flop' - The Second Deal
- The Dealer reveals the initial three Community Cards face up in the center of the table, which are available for all participants.
Step 5: The Second Betting Round
Betting Limit: Lower Limit Stake
- The second Betting Round is initiated by the first active player to the left of the Dealer. This round also proceeds clockwise, with each active player taking their turn to act. The betting for this round is set at the Lower Limit Stake of the table.
Step 6: 'The Turn' - The Third Deal
- A fourth Community Card is then placed face up in the center of the table by the Dealer.
Step 7: The Third Betting Round
Betting Limit: Higher Limit Stake
- The third Betting Round begins with the first active player to the left of the Dealer. As before, betting proceeds clockwise, with each active player acting in turn. The amount for this round is set at the table's Higher Limit Stake.
Step 8: 'The River' - The ultimate and final deal occurs here.
- A fifth and final Community Card is placed face up in the center by the Dealer.
Step 9: This marks the Fourth and Last Betting Round.
Betting Limit: Higher Limit Stake
- Again, the first active player next to the Dealer starts the fourth Betting Round, continuing clockwise. Each active player now takes turns in this round, with betting set at the Higher Limit Stake.
Step 10: The Showdown
- Once the last Betting Round has concluded, a Showdown occurs if more than one player remains in the game (see The Showdown below). In this phase, each active participant combines two of their Pocket Cards with three Community Cards to form the best five-card Poker hand possible. Hand Ranking Chart section of this site);
- The active player who assembles the highest-ranked hand claims the Pot, after deducting any 'Rake' (see the details in the respective section). Limits, Antes & Rake in the how to play section of this site).
Omaha Hi Detailed Description
1. The Buy-in
Before joining a game of Omaha Hi at parquetbinet.com, players are required to purchase a minimum number of Chips to enter the game ('Buy-in').
At parquetbinet.com, the minimum Buy-in is set at ten times the Lower Limit Stake of that particular table. For instance, at a $1/$2 table, players must Buy-in for at least $10 (see the Buy-in details). Limits, Antes & Rake in the how to play section of this site).
2. Posting
Before players can 'Sit-in' (join) at a parquetbinet.com Omaha Hi table, they are required to pay a starting fee ('Post'), matching the table's Lower Limit Stake.
The Post must adhere to the same guidelines as the Blind Bets (refer to The Blind Bets section for details).
Once the Post is made, the player may take their seat at the Omaha Hi table.
Players also have the choice to 'Sit Out' (not engage) and wait for the Big Blind before they begin playing. Posting helps maintain fairness, preventing players from entering the game in a 'Late Position' to avoid Blind Bets.
3. The Blind Bets
In the Omaha Hi variant at parquetbinet.com, 'Antes' are not used to contribute to the Pot. Instead, the Pot is initially built through 'mandatory' bets known as 'Blind Bets'.
The Blind Bets are made prior to the initial card deal:
- The first Blind Bet, called the 'Small Blind', is placed by the first player Sitting-in, located to the left of the Dealer, in a clockwise manner. The Small Blind amounts to half the Lower Limit Stake, and for tables with stakes over $1, it is rounded down to the nearest dollar.
- The second Blind Bet, known as the 'Big Blind', is placed by the next player in line, also sitting clockwise from the Dealer. This bet matches the Lower Limit Stake of the table.
Both the Big Blind and Small Blind in Omaha Hi Poker function as 'Live' (active) Bets. As such, they can be Checked, Called, Raised, or Folded, following standard Poker rules.
After the Blind Bets are placed, players receive their four, five, or six facedown Pocket Cards. The dealing process occurs in a clockwise pattern, with one card at a time, starting from the player next to the Big Blind.
The first Betting Round then starts with the first player Sitting-in, located clockwise from the Big Blind.
4. The Betting Rounds & Limits
In Omaha Hi at parquetbinet.com, players can expect up to four Betting Rounds. The betting amounts during each round are dictated by the specific table's Lower and Higher Limit Stakes (see the detailed rules on the site). The Lower Limit Stake is always half of the Higher Limit Stake (for example, in a $1/$2 or a $5/$10 table). Limits, Antes & Rake During the first two Betting Rounds of an Omaha Hi hand, players place bets in multiples of the table's Lower Limit Stake.
- For the last two Betting Rounds, the betting amounts are in multiples of the Higher Limit Stake.
- parquetbinet.com adheres to the traditional Poker Betting Round Structure. Betting proceeds in a clockwise direction from one active player to the next. For every round, players can choose to:
Check - Passing the action to the next active player;
- Bet - Establishing an initial increase in the amount that later players must contribute to the Pot to remain in the hand;
- Raise - Making subsequent increases to the amount that future players must contribute to stay in the game;
- Call - Matching the previous player's bet in the round and staying in play (each player must at least Call the Big Blind in the first round);
- Fold - Discarding their hand and withdrawing from the round, forfeiting any amounts they had previously wagered.
- According to traditional Poker rules, each Betting Round allows a maximum of one Bet and three Raises ('Raise', 'Reraise' & 'Cap'). After a Cap occurs, subsequent players can only Call or Fold.
The round concludes if:
A Betting Round is concluded when:
- All active players have Checked in turn;
Or - All active players have Called the last player to Bet or Raise, in turn;
Or - Only one active player remains after all preceding players have folded, resulting in that player winning the Pot automatically; both the Betting Round and the hand conclude.
Each of the subsequent three cards dealt ('The Flop', 'The Turn', and 'The River'), accompanied by a Betting Round, begins with the first active player (who hasn’t Folded), taking turns clockwise from the Dealer.
5. The Showdown
If more than one player remains active at the end of the fourth Betting Round, the action moves to a Showdown.
During the Showdown, each active player combines any two of their four, five, or six Pocket Cards with three of the five Community Boardcards to create their best five-card hand.
parquetbinet.com complies with Standard Poker Rules in evaluating hand rankings (consult the Hand Ranking Chart section of this site for more information);
The player with the highest-ranked Poker hand claims the Pot, after accounting for any higher-ranking 'All-in' hands that other players may hold (see the related section for clarity). Limits, Antes & Rake in the how to play section of this site).
The round wraps up; the Dealer Button moves to the next Sitting-in player in a clockwise direction, and a new Omaha Hi hand begins.
Before each hand, the cards are thoroughly shuffled.
