Explanation of TAG
At the poker table, it's not uncommon to encounter various shorthand terms that represent different player types. Below is a brief collection of these abbreviations.
TAG – Tight Aggressive
LAG – Loose Aggressive
Nit – Exceptionally tight player
Maniac – Loose and crazy
LP – Loose Passive
TP – Tight Passive
Here’s how TAG might be used in conversation -> In our game, we had 2 TAGs , a casual player, and someone who was overly cautious, referred to as a nit.
Incorporating TAG into Your Poker Approach
TAG players are very selective regarding the starting hands they choose to play, opting for a strong hand range and then playing this range with aggression as the game progresses. While a skilled TAG will know when to bluff appropriately, they naturally find themselves holding advantageous hands more often than players with a looser style, known as LAG.
Devising a solid counter-strategy against an effective TAG can be quite challenging. This difficulty is part of the reason the TAG style is often celebrated as the 'most effective style'. However, it's important to note that most TAGs possess certain vulnerabilities, which must be examined individually depending on the player.
