Explanation of Raise
Raising comes into play when there’s already been a bet made by an opponent and we want to increase the amount of that bet. For instance, if one of our opponents bets $50, we might decide to raise that to $100. The player who made the original bet now has to at least call the extra $50 to stay in the game, or they can decide to fold or make their own re-raise .
Using Raise in Context -> When our opponent made a continuation bet on the flop, we decided to make a raise .
Incorporating Raise into Your Poker Strategy
Raising is a crucial tactic when we want to increase the pot size. Typically, we might choose to raise in the following scenarios -
a) When we hold a very strong hand and want to extract maximum value by encouraging our opponent to call with weaker cards.
b) We have a bluff, semi-bluff or vulnerable we have a powerful hand and are aiming to create some fold equity by utilizing our raise .
Raising is a vital strategic component in poker. While not all aggressive players come out ahead, most successful players are those who play aggressively and know how to time their raises effectively.
