To qualify, players are required to have five cards with values of eight or lower. This is why Omaha Hi/Lo is frequently called Omaha-8, emphasizing that qualifying low hands must consist of five cards that are 'eight or lower'.

Consider the following flop scenarios in Omaha-8:
1. K♦Q♥T♣ – This flop texture not only ensures that no low hand is immediately feasible, but even if low cards appear on the turn and river, it still wouldn’t be sufficient for any player to form a qualifying low hand. Essentially, this round will play out as if it's strictly high-hand only Omaha.
2. K♦A♠Q♥ – Although generating a qualifying low hand by the river on this board is not highly probable, it remains within the realm of possibility. Since the Ace serves as a low card, if low cards show up on the turn and river, qualifying low hands could certainly come into play.
3. A♠5♥T♦ – Currently, no qualifying low hand exists, but there are several low draws available to players. Any two low cards (other than the Ace and Five) would provide four cards towards a low hand, needing just one more non-pair low card to appear on the turn or river to complete the qualifying low hand.
4. 2♣3♣7♦ – Attention is warranted here! A made low hand can be accomplished with this flop. If a player has two unpaired cards valued 8 or lower, they could already have flopped a made low hand. The best low hand possible at this stage would be A4xx.
The fewer low hand opportunities presented by a specific board texture, the more advantageous having a strong high hand becomes. In instances like the fourth board texture, possessing a very powerful high hand may hold less value as opponents could already be sharing the pot with a qualifying low hand.
