Explanation of Dog
The expression 'underdog' is believed to have emerged from 19th-century dog fighting. In these brutal contests, the victorious dog would often be positioned on top, while the defeated one would end up underneath.
Example of Dog in a sentence -> Although I enjoy playing 40nl games when there’s action, I recognize that I might often be an underdog in those matchups.
Integrating Dog into Your Poker Strategy
Going all-in as an underdog doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ve made a significant tactical mistake. For instance, we might be willing to push all our chips in preflop with a pair of Kings, even knowing that we might face a considerable underdog situation if our opponent has Aces.
There are times when we might confidently make calls as the underdog because the odds are in our favor. For example, suppose we anticipate winning only 30% of the time in a river call. If our opponent bets half the pot, it could still be a profitable move since we only need to win a quarter of the time in that situation.
